Employee of the Year

In this category asbestos or demolition companies are invited to nominate an employee from their own organisation who they feel has demonstrated leadership and/or a commitment to training, customer engagement, work ethic or outstanding service to their company. The employee should be one who shows initiative, is willing to take on extra projects or accepts responsibilities above and beyond their regular job routine. They should also be seen as a role model for others in the organisation with strong relationships not only in their own team but across the entire business.

  • Please explain why you are nominating this individual highlighting specific qualities and/or behaviours that make this person an outstanding member of your organisation, as well as a specific project they have been involved in.

  • Please give an example of specific behaviours or qualities that make this person an outstanding member of your organisation.

  • Please give an example of a specific project, initiative or work task where this employee has demonstrated leadership and/or a commitment to training, customer engagement, work ethic or outstanding service going above and beyond their work responsibilities.

  • Please give an example of how this individual motivates or inspires members of your organisation in their own team or across the business.

Health and Safety Best Practice

In this category, asbestos or demolition companies are invited to tell us about a health and safety training programme they have established as an effective methodology to ensure safety during daily operations. We want to see examples of company-wide safety and/or training initiatives that enable employees to feel safe and be safe on job sites and are implemented using a specific process or innovative approach.

  • Please provide an overview of the health & safety initiative explaining what has made it so successful for your company and highlighting any innovations or new technology used to support or implement it.

  • Please summarise the processes involved and how these are managed with respect to injuries and regulatory requirements as well as any training or education provided.

  • Please give details of how this initiative helps your employees to be safe and feel safe on job sites.

  • Please explain how this initiative fits into your companies broader health & safety strategy or management system.

  • Please include any results or measurements that highlight the overall success of the initiative and how it has benefited your organisation.

Environmental Best Practice

In this category, asbestos and demolition companies are invited to tell us about a contract where they have demonstrated a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations. We want to see examples of ‘green’ working practices that utilise new innovation, technologies or equipment to reduce the effects of noise, pollution, disturbance etc. at a worksite.

  • Please provide an overview of the project explaining what made it an environmental best practice and highlighting any specific processes used, as well as any innovations, technology or equipment.

  • Please outline the specifics of the asbestos, demolition or green working practice used and the environmental benefit it provided.

  • Explain how you managed the project with respect to the client, general public and regulatory requirements.

  • Please describe any challenges you encountered and explain how you overcame these to complete the project on time, on budget or safely.

  • Please include any results or measurements that highlight the overall success or demonstrate your commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Services to Asbestos or Demolition

In this category, asbestos and demolition companies are invited to nominate an individual who they feel has demonstrated exceptional service to the demolition and/or asbestos industries. This award will honour the individual for their recognised leadership and commitment to betterment of their industry and the community as a whole. The nominated person should be someone who is an avid supporter or spokesperson for the industry and maintains an active role.

  • Please explain why you are nominating this individual highlighting specific qualities and/or behaviours that make this person an outstanding representative of the asbestos or demolition industry.

  • Please give a specific example of where this individual has acted as a spokesperson or avid supporter of industry best practice and advocacy.

  • Please give an example of how this individual has worked to improve the industry and the asbestos/demolition community as a whole.

Class A Asbestos Removal Best Practice 

In this category, asbestos companies are invited to tell us about a Class A Asbestos Removal project that presented challenges or required an unique approach for completion. We want to see examples that highlight industry best practice techniques or demonstrate the use of an innovative approach, new equipment or technology.

Class B Asbestos Removal Best Practice 

In this category, asbestos companies are invited to tell us about a Class B Asbestos Removal project that presented challenges or required an unique approach for completion. We want to see examples that highlight industry best practice techniques or demonstrate the use of an innovative approach, new equipment or technology.

Restricted Demolition Best Practice 

In this category, demolition companies are invited to tell us about a Restricted Demolition Project that presented challenges or required a unique approach for completion. We want to see examples that highlight industry best practice techniques or demonstrate the use of an innovative approach, new equipment or technology.

 

Restricted Demolition Work includes:

•demolition of a structure under 3 storeys (or 15 metres –whichever is lowest) in height not requiring consent;

•demolition of a structure under 3 storeys (or 15 metres –whichever is lowest) that is not attached to another structure (excluding garages, sheds, lean-to’s and carports);

•internal demolition work of non-structural items in a structure of any height.

Unrestricted Demolition Best Practice 

In this category, demolition companies are invited to tell us about an Unrestricted Demolition Project that presented challenges or required a unique approach for completion. We want to see examples that highlight industry best practice techniques or demonstrate the use of an innovative approach, new equipment or technology.

 

Unrestricted Demolition Work includes:

•demolition of a structure under 3 storeys (or 15m 􀍴whichever is lowest) 

 

that has been deemed by engineering or other authority to be “high risk” requiring consent

•demolition of a structure that is attached to another structure of any height requiring consent

•demolition of a structure listed as a heritage or a character building requiring consent

•demolition of a structure spanning over water, roadway or railway line.

•demolition within a chemical, oil, or gas installation of a structure of any height

•demolition involving a tower crane, a mobile crane with a rated capacity of more than 100 tonnes

•demolition that has structural components that are pre-tensioned or post-tensioned

•demolition requiring floor propping or using explosives

Contamination Response Best Practice 

In this category we are welcoming submissions for projects involving contaminated environments such as fire damaged buildings, meth contaminated buildings, buildings with hazardous mould, soil projects and more. Companies are invited to tell us about how they remediated the site highlighting any additional challenges encountered or unique approaches required for completion. We want to see examples that highlight industry best practice techniques or demonstrate the use of an innovative approach, new equipment or technology.

Supplier of the Year

In this category, we are welcoming nominations for any companies who supplies equipment or services to support the asbestos or demolition industry. This could be a company that sells safety equipment or machinery, a training provider or laboratory. We want to see examples of where suppliers have gone above and beyond to support our industry perhaps by providing
specialised training, or other specialised services to help improve the industry.

  • Permitted companies for this category include heavy or light equipment suppliers, health & safety equipment suppliers, training providers and laboratory or other testing services.

  • Please explain why you are nominating this company highlighting specific qualities and/or behaviours that make this company an partner to the asbestos or demolition industry.

  • Please give a specific example of where this company has provided initiatives or other services to help improve the industry and the asbestos/demolition community as a whole.

Assessor or Surveyor of the Year

In this category, we are welcoming nominations for assessors or surveyors who demonstrate and represent best practice standards. We want to hear examples of potentially challenging projects and incidences where the assessor or surveyor  has supported and /or assisted the removalist to achieve the best possible outcome and the highest standard of clearance. 

  • Please explain why you are nominating this assessor highlighting specific qualities and/or behaviours that make them a quality assessor.

  • Please give specific examples of where this assessor has provided guidance or leadership to help improve the outcome of a particular job or project.

Asbestos Contractor of the Year

This award will be presented to the Asbestos company that the judging panel believes to be the best of all those entered across the 2023 award categories. Only entries submitted into other categories will be eligible and this category will not be open to general entries. All award entrants will be considered and will not be limited to the winners of a specific category.

Demolition Contractor of the Year

This award will be presented to the Demolition company that the judging panel believes to be the best of all those entered across the 2023 award categories. Only entries submitted into other categories will be eligible and this category will not be open to general entries. All award entrants will be considered and will not be limited to the winners of a specific category.
